Struggling to set up Pro Tools 2020 (DLL error)

So I recently purchased ProTools 2020 on the monthly subscription and downloaded it to my computer using the installer. Now when I try to open protools I get the following message...

C:\Program Files\Avid\Pro Tools\PTW.dll could not be loaded. Please contact the software publisher for support using this software. Error details: Import DLL PTCloud.dll cannot be loaded.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? I tried deleting the install and clearing my registry using CCleaner multiple times but I'm still getting the same error and it's really frustrating. I thought I'd try here first as I assume it's gonna take ages getting support through the official channels due to coronavirus.

If it helps my PC is ASUS FX505DD, Ryzen 5, GeForce GTX 1050

Where are my Pro Tools First sessions?

Hello!

First of all, pardon the question!

I was a Pro Tools user from 2002 until 2011 and three days ago I downloaded Pro Tools First and opened up Pro Tools for the FIRST time in almost a DECADE.

So, I know things have changed (although not THAT much). I know this used to have a three session limit and that it was saved in the cloud. I also know that it now has unlimited sessions for local storage. Thing is, I don't know WHERE they are saved and literally I just finished my first recording now (just a simple digitizing of some tracks I recorded in 1994!) and am afraid of quitting PT for fear of it disappearing.

Help!

Toggle between PT and SD3 (or DS Thorn) screen

I've poked around and haven't found the answer...
I'm working with PT12.5.2 on a late 2015 retina5K iMac OS10.12.6 and this obstacle occurs with both SD3 and DS Thorn.
Many plugs will come to the fore if I click on the window of that plug and simply click on the PT window to return. But SD3 and Thorn will not slip behind when I click on the PT screen. I'm sure it's something obvious, any help appreciated!

Creating a send to a reverb

Hi all,

In order to save on cpu I'm trying have a single reverb on an aux track, and then use sends on individual tracks that I want to use that reverb.

A problem that I'm having is that if I want to automate a tracks volume to suddenly go to 0, the reverb continues on. This doesn't happen if I have the reverb added to a track as an insert instead.

I've tried changing the send to "pre fader" but it still happens. Maybe I'm going about this in the wrong way?

Is this a corrupted session or a plugin issue?

Hi Guys,

Longtime reader, first time poster.

I think I have a corrupted session.....

Protools opens, tries to load session, gets to end of 'Restoring tracks' and then crashes with 'Error occur in Pro Tools application'. I've saved the crash log and sent them to avid (not sure how to get help there though?).

Tried opening with Shift (to deactivate all plugins) and session opens fine. If I then activate the plugins (Pigments, VPS Avenger) all fine until Arturia Spark 2 and then crashes.

I also created a new session and imported each track one at a time (import session data and renaming and saving etc method), all fine until the track with Spark 2 on it.

My first thinking was Spark is then the issue.....but

I can open some older sessions that have Spark in them, can deactivate and activate Spark and no problems...so, back to the thinking that the session is corrupt? Not an issue with Spark?

My system has previously had no real problems (details and Sanrda report below).

I did unplug my interface recently and use it briefly with another computer though...

Now thinking back, the other day when working on the session I had an issue and the session crashed with an assertion error. Did some hunting online and found that Windows was using my interface (Focusrite Clarett 4pre USB) for system sounds as well as Protools. Now I don't think I had i t set like that (windows was just using system stuff not the Focusrite) but wonder if that unplugging/plugging may have changed that setting? And then in turn perhaps that corrupted the session?

I've spoken to Arturia support and trashed the Spark prefs as they suggested - no change though unfortunately (and waiting to hear back further).

Sorry for the long post - just trying to work/think through this methodically!

URGENT! Looking to a creative work-around for MBOX 2 Pro Firmware Crash

So here's the cheeky fun I've gotten myself into...

I'm on a Windows 7 machine with a HD that's on it's way out, but currently is up and running smooth.

I just did some work in Pro Tools LE 8.04 that I really like. It's using plug-ins that work with that version and everything is exactly how I want it.

Unfortunately ... The driver crashed mid session and I had to force quit. I do have the work saved, but ever since, I've had the flashing orange light of doom and the firmware is corrupted. This has never happened before.

Here's where I need the workaround:

I'm sure simply restarting windows would repair the connection, BUT... if I do, Windows might not boot.

Yes, I do intend to fix this rig ASAP, but I have other non-music work to finish and I'd really love to bounce this track. It's for a gofundme page to support someone in the ICU for Covid and someone is waiting for it. My OS is running fine at the moment. I have a single bad physical sector in the boot portion of the drive, so as long as I don't shut down — I'm ok.

What I tried:
  1. I don't have access to another PC with a Firewire port, so i can't follow Avid's instructions to bring the box back to life.
  2. Disabled/Enabled both devices(The firewire driver needs a restart to update)
  3. Tried multiple cables
  4. Tried to delete the MBOX 2 PRO entries in the registry so maybe the firewire can see it as new, but there are a few that I can't take ownership of and they can't be deleted. Those are the ones connected to the firewire port.
  5. Hooked up a M-Audio Firewire 410 to see if by some miracle I could use LE with it. Obviously I can't (duh), BUT it did load the drivers using that same Firewire port and the device is usable. It also shows the port is still ok.

Am I missing something easy here? Help? :rolleyes:

[Note: A Sandra report is coming up in the reply. Please don't hate on the system, I really like this OS and I have what I consider the "sweet spot" versions of all my software. I'm not a newbie and have used new versions of PT, I just like this set up and it's never given me any issues.

Hello i tried searching the forums for an answer but couldnt so i apologise ..i bought an upgrade and support plan renewal for my expired perpetual protools since 2018. I purchased from guitar city i was told it doesnt matter how long the plan hasnt renewed but protools would hon0r the upgrade..so they sent me the code but it wont activate protools has no support at this time and im nervous since i spent $200 and dont know if its going to work and i cant get a refund..can anyone help me ..protools works fine but im getting a new computer and need to update to latest..

video scrubbing/scanning lag

I have noticed since moving to 2020.3 that when i'm just using the selector tool to scan back and forth on the timeline looking for a particular scene or shot, the video is very laggy and can be two or three seconds late catching up. This is new behaviour. It seems to be worst when the session is freshly open and becomes more tolerable after a minute or two though still worse that 2019.6

Migrate Pro Tools First to Pro Tools 11?

Hello. I have been using Pro Tools First for approx. one year. Running Windows 10 on Lenovo 8 GB Ram. Good computer. I have about 20 projects in varying states of completion that I do not want to lose. I store all locally. While I am largely happy with PT First, the lack of ability to export/backup projects and the 16 track limit are issues.



I have a friend who has given me his copy of Pro Tools 11 including the original discs, iLok, activation card, manual, everything. He is no longer using. I do not know if he has uninstalled, but can find out.



Questions:
1) Can I legally install this? I think the answer should be 'yes' since he purchased and is no longer using. He no longer has the iLok.

2) Manual says I should uninstall any previous Pro Tools before installing PT 11. I'm real scared of this. Fear I could lose everything. Is uninstalling PT First absolutely necessary? I'd prefer to have both PT First and PT 11 installed independently with either available. I could continue working on existing projects in PT First and/or migrate them to PT 11. New projects start in PT 11 going forward. Possible?

3) Will PT 11 recognize my current PT First projects?


My overriding concern is the safety of my current projects. I know simply installing on a different computer would remove all doubt. I also recognize that PT 11 is an old version and that I'd probably be better off just buying the current version. But, I'm on a budget and don't need a lot more capability. So, appreciate any advice. thanks.

Mbox Pro+Eleven rack via SPDIF doesn'work

bad streak does not end.

Well, I have a little issue, and I want to share with you, if anyone can help me I'll be so grateful.
Well, I usually use an Eleven rack with a DIGI002 via SPDIF+ PT11, and now, I want to do the same connection with a MBOX PRO, but that interface doesn't work well, I've changed the clocks master and slave between them but the Eleven rack change the external of clock show and says "Ivalid or none" or "Valid".... this doesn't happen with DIGI002, now I have digital noise, and obviously, I don't have signal at pro tools.
Does anybody know how can I fitx it?

Llm pt 12.5 - i need help please!!!

Ok... So here's the deal.
I have searched high and low and nothing is helping, this is my last resort before I literally stop making music because I am at my wits end.

I have used PT10 w/002r for year, LLM works wonders...

I switch to PT 12.5 w/002r, LLM produces NO sound from monitors.
Well I did read if I bus my channel to an AUX it will give me sound, which it does. BUT I STILL HAVE LATENCY!!!

I really don't know what to do at this point because I am tracking vocals and guitars in PT 10 and then I head into PTO 12 if I want to use my AAX plugins.

Can someone PLEASE HELP ME WITH THIS! I would like to make a complete switch over to PT 12 so I can record vox and guitars, but I keep searching and nothing is coming up for the resolution.
